Bill was raised in Winnetka, Illinois, participating in football and track & field for Loyola Academy in Wilmette, graduating in 1976. Running was his passion, and he always spoke highly of Coach Amato, his track coach and mentor. Bill qualified for state in the hurdles, his specialty. He was a proud graduate of Baylor University (Sic’em Bears!), receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Finance in 1980. After college, Bill competed as a decathlete throughout his 30’s. He mentored others by coaching Special Olympics track & field events.
Bill had a successful career in Sales and Marketing with Farmers Insurance for many years, then started his second career as a Mortgage Loan Officer for Envoy Mortgage, where he worked until his passing. He enjoyed helping a person with just the right financing for their needs.
Bill served his parish by volunteering as a Faith Formation teacher, a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and an Acolyte at St. James Catholic Church. He trained many Altar Servants over the years and had a special bond with the youth of his church, having been asked to be Confirmation Sponsor for several. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Bill loved golf and played often with family and friends until his health started to fail. He spent his leisure time reading, listening to Jazz, Country & Western dancing, and collecting vintage memorabilia, anything pertaining to Baylor being his favorite. He loved Texas BBQ, Mexican and Italian food, his favorite being Pam’s spaghetti. He took pleasure in the simple things in life, playing outside with his daughter and all the neighborhood kids, then with his own grandchildren later in life.
Bill wanted to thank Trent Noel, for donating stem cells/bone marrow for his transplant, as well as his daughter, Andi Cronan, who donated a kidney, which gave him an extra seven years with us. Special thanks to Dr. Hosing, his oncologist, and to Dr. Kagan, his nephrologist, for all their care over the years. Bill lived each day to the fullest and has earned his eternal rest.
Bill was an advocate for promoting organ donation. He hosted several events and fundraisers to raise awareness and paid it forward by adding many friends and family to be possible donors on BeTheMatch.org. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite charity, or one of his below on his behalf.
BeTheMatch.org, The American Cancer Society, or Misericordia.
