Born on April 20th, 1940, in Knobel, Arkansas, to Harlon and Pauline Riggs, Russell was raised in the nearby town of Rector, where he graduated from high school in 1958. On November 29th of the following year, he married his loving wife, Sharon, in Rockford, Illinois, where they raised their family until moving to Houston in 1979.
An outdoor enthusiast, Russell loved fishing, gardening, and watching the rain fall. One of his favorite pastimes was storytelling: Everyone who knew Russell will remember laughing at tales of his childhood adventures in Arkansas. He also enjoyed the companionship of his dog, Onyx, who was always by his side.
Russell was a loving, gentle and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, who spent his life working very hard to provide for his family. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons Randy, Rob (Jean), Rick (Leah), and Ronny (Crystal); daughter Renita (Paul); half-sisters Wilma, Vonda, and Kathy; and beloved Aunt Floy. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on Thursday, November 5th, 2015, at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel of Calvary Hill Funeral Home, located at 21723 Aldine Westfield Road in Humble.
