Larry was born in Lindenhurst, New York, on July 12, 1942, to Harold and Kathryn Young. Upon graduating from Lindenhurst High School in 1959, Larry proudly served his country as an air crewman aboard the USS Yorktown in the United States Navy. After traveling the world during his time in the Navy, he returned to Lindenhurst where he began his career with the telephone company. A work transfer brought the family to Spring, Texas in 1976, and he retired as an Area Manager from Southwestern Bell in 1992.
He was known to many as a jokester with a quick wit and a hell of a sense of humor. He loved to laugh and make others laugh with his jokes and elaborate stories. Larry lived a lot in his lifetime. He was a sailor, a law enforcement officer, a fisherman, a golfer, a pool player, and a Harley Davidson enthusiast. His transition from a suit-wearing telephone man to a long-haired, tattooed biker was a beautiful thing to behold. In recent years, you could usually find Larry hanging out in his garage playing online poker or posting his opinions on Facebook. If the garage door was open, you could always drop by for a cold beer and a friendly chat. In whatever phase of life Larry found himself, he was always a class act and a responsible, stand-up guy – a man of strong moral and ethical character that always did the right thing. You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone that would say otherwise. He was a loving husband, proud Dad, and an adoring Pop-Pop and Great-Pop.
Larry is survived by his wife Patricia Young; his children, Joseph Miller, Linda Neill, Alana Trawick and Tiffany McLeod; his grandchildren Larri Gardner, Christopher Loveall, Julie Miller, Cameron Morris, Devin McLeod and Davis McLeod; his great-grandson Jaxon Vaughn; and his sister Karyn Auriemma. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Kathryn Young; first love of his life, Dolores Young; and son, Lawrence “Larry” Young, Jr.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 18, 2020, from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m., followed by a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery.
