A TIME TO BE BORN:
On November 12, 1928 to the late Hermie and Gladys Thomas in Gonzales County, Texas, a baby girl was born which they named Joyce Bertha. She was the fifth child of ten children born to this union.
On October 3, 2018 she passed away peacefully at her home with family surrounding her.
A TIME TO SERVE:
Joyce accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and was Baptized at the St. James Baptist Church of Gonzales County. She served in the youth department. After relocating to the Corpus Christi area, she joined with the St. John Baptist Church under the leadership of the Late Pastor Stewart and continued to serve under the leadership of Pastor Branch and currently under Pastor Reeves. She served faithful until her health declined. She served in many capacities of God’s Venue. Joyce was a proud supporter and mother of the Boy and Cub Scouts and PTA. Joyce also assisted in Northside Mission, Bible Study for the children and offered Vacation Bible School to the children. She served in the Fellowship Choir and Golden Leaves. Joyce also assisted with Sunday School and folding the church programs for Sunday service.
A TIME TO OBEY:
Joyce married Claude Lee Barnes on July 29, 1946. They served and worked together faithfully until God saw fit to welcome Claude home on October 10, 1978. She remained the faithful and dedicated mother to her children which she loved dearly.
A TIME TO MOURN:
Joyce experienced many life challenges, but through it all, she always leaned and trusted on her maker. Those that await her arrival are her parents, Hermie and Gladys Thomas; husband, Claude Lee Barnes; child, Claude Lee Jr.; siblings, Maude Stewart, Lucille Coleman, Charlie Thomas, Jack Thomas; grandchild, Pamela Boston. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: children, Johnny Barnes (Julie) of Danbury, CT; Margaret Boston (Larry) of Austin, TX; Dorothy Francis of Corpus Christi, TX; Gladys Murray (Glynn) of Austin, TX; Wayne Barnes of Corpus Christi, TX and Robert Barnes of Houston, TX. Granny leaves 18 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. A host of nieces and nephews and many others that she nurtured through this walk of life.
