“June” (as he was lovingly called all his life) was his family and friend’s “MacGyver”—a jack of all trades and master of many! Not being a stranger to hard work, he industriously worked in several trades—starting as a young boy with farm and mechanic duties. He worked at Houston Metro Transit Authority as a Mechanic. He retired after working 30 years in Classifications for the Houston Correction Corporation of America (CCA)—now Core Civic. He was an honorably discharged Veteran after serving in the United States Army.
He never experienced an idle moment—always creating new ways of being an entrepreneur: trucking company with his own 18-wheeler, Herbalife Dealer, etc. Some of his hobbies were a great love for chess (both online and in-person) and auto racing.
His smile, infectious personality, and sharp swagger would always garner the attention, respect, and love of people—everywhere he went! These traits would open the door for James to share his love of the Lord and “preach” on a moment’s notice about God’s Greatness and Gift of Salvation!
James was a loving father to his two children, Katina Rochelle Baldwin and James Benoit Baldwin (mother, Ollie Baldwin). He was supportive and attentive to his grandchildren—raising them as if they were his children; and loving to his special great-grandchildren.
James was blessed to share years of traveling with his loving and devoted wife, Patricia Etta Baldwin, who cared for him until the end. Patricia also works in the Houston CCA (now Core Civic)—affording them the opportunity to have shared all aspects of their lives together.
James was preceded in death by both parents: Henry & Pink Baldwin; 2 brothers: Calvin Baldwin, Clarence Baldwin; 4 sisters: Annie Grace Taylor, Ernestine Holmes, Edwina Mitchell, Alberta Minor. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Patricia Etta Baldwin; 3 brothers: Clay C. Baldwin, Alvin Baldwin (Patricia), Adron Baldwin (Ruth); 2 children: Katina Baldwin, James B. Baldwin (Jocelyn); 2 grandchildren: Dejanique Stoneham (Michael), Maiya Hodges; 2 great-grandchildren: Kendall Stoneham, Kyleigh Stoneham; 3 step children: Teresa Hayes (Pluria), Terros Gambrell (Ta’Taka), Terron Gambrell; 2 step-grandchildren: Zakieyah Gambrell, Keziah Gambrell; and a host of relatives and friends.
