Ethel May Bradley was born July 9, 1939, to Carroll Simmons and Lillie Mae Larks in Bunkie, Louisiana. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, and her three siblings. She grew up in the Acres Homes community of Houston Texas. Ethel attended and graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1957. She was recognized as an outstanding student and participated in Track & Field. Ethel accepted Christ at an early age and always kept her Christian beliefs first and foremost in her life.
Ethel married Hezekiah B. Bradley in Honolulu, Hawaii on November 10, 1970. Hezekiah preceded her in death on May 17. 1987. Together they raised & nurtured five children.
Prior to her retirement, her professional career encompassed working as a Logistics Clerk at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii, Manager for a large storage company, Security Dispatcher, and a Direct Support Professional (DSP).
After moving back to Texas, Ethel joined the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church to continue her service to God as a dedicated and devoted church usher. She was a long-term active member with the Acres Home Multi-Service Center engaging in community-based projects and programs. In her later years she enjoyed travelling the world to visit her children and grandchildren living stateside and in Europe.
Our Matriarch was a leader and a beacon of unending love, compassion, and kindness. Her smile and laughter lit up a room and was infectious to anyone who she encountered. Her wisdom and humility touched the lives of many. She is dearly missed but her memory lives on by those impacted by her positivity.
Ethel is preceded in death by her parents; her loving and devoted husband; her stepfather, Hewitt Huland Shelton; brothers, Lawrence Edward Shelton and Dewitt Tommy Shelton, and her sister Hewitt Lee Rhodes-Shelton.
Ethel’s legacy continues through the love of her children, Larry Charles Bradley of Portland, Oregon, Josie Michalle Miller of Houston, Texas, John Allen Bradley of Portland, Oregon, Kelvin Lee Bradley and Tracey Renee Bradley of Houston (Hadassah Perez), Texas; ten grandchildren, Taleaha Nicole Bradley, Michael Dewayne Holland Jr. (Monika Holland), LeShamara Hicks, Brianna Marie Bradley, Shannon Mei Paris (Brendan Paris), Shaniece Nicole Bradley, Isaiah Thomas Bradley, Nicholas Marquee Bradley, Lamis Angel Perez-Bradley, and Lily Mariah Bradley; ten great grandchildren, Ty Jackson, Bradley James Paris, Jayla Charfauros, Amaya Charfauros, Gavin Wayne Paris, Brazil Ari Mai, Ella Grace Paris, and Eli Raiden LaFave, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
A visitation for Ethel will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Calvary Hill Funeral Home, 21723 Aldine-Westfield Road, Humble, TX 77338. A celebration of life service will occur Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 21723 Aldine-Westfield Road, Humble, TX 77338. A repass will occur Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, 21723 Aldine-Westfield Road, Humble, TX 77338.
