'Bobbie Jean' was born July 26, 1948 to the late Coy and Olevia Trotter Swan, Sr. She was raised in the Greater Fifth Ward Community where she attended Atherton Elementary and E. O. Smith Middle schools and a proud graduate of the Phyllis Wheatley H.S. Class of 1966. Barbara went on to attend Guthrie Job Corps in Oklahoma earning trades in Computer Technology and Office Administration. She later attended Southwestern Business University.
Barbara was employed with Shell Oil for 19 years as a Digitizing Operator and with the City of Houston 9-1-1 as EMS Operator for 8 years.
Her family united and worshipped at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Rev. L. H. Simpson. Later after moving to Settegast, they united with New Faith Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. J. W. Brent and then to Agape Love under the leadership of the late Rev. M. A. Bazile. She joined St. John's Downtown where she served with the Diamonds and Usher Ministries.
She will be joining her parents, one brother Arthur Lotis Bell and one sister, Elizabeth Swan-Pettit in Heaven.
Leaving to cherish her precious memories are her three children, two sons - Byron 'Bebo' Swan, Sr. and Dymontrell Jones; one daughter, Dr. Wynetta Dawn Jones; four grandchildren - Aliyah, Alyssa and Byron 'BJ' Swan, Jr. and Armani Jones. One great-granddaughter - Aubrielle; two brothers Coy Swan, Jr and Teddy J Swan; One daughter-in-law, Veronica; one sister-in-law, Ruby Askew Swan and her friend of many years, Willard Jones. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
