Lloyd James Durant Johnson of Gatineau (Aylmer), Québec at the age of 79. Survived by daughter Naomi (Amanda), and brothers Tim (Anna) of Edmonton and Donald of Winnipeg. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Predeceased by wife Alene of 44 years, and brothers Jack (Jan) and Douglas (Cathy).
Born to the late Lloyd and Marjorie (Stanier), Lloyd grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the eldest of 5 boys. He moved to Ottawa in the early 1970s and he and Alene built their lifelong home in Champlain Park (Aylmer, QC) in 1974. Few places brought him more joy than his cherished home. Lloyd was a Jack Of All Trades and could fix just about anything. He loved working out in his garage, on his vehicles, and around his property on his various ‘toys’.
Lloyd had a fulfilling career with the federal government for 25 years and enjoyed 29 years of retirement. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman for most of his life. He was a longtime member of the National Defence Headquarters Game & Fish Club, a Past Master of King Solomon Lodge #69 (Aylmer, Quebec), a Tunis Shriner, and a member of the Jesters of Ottawa.
Lloyd could find commonalities with just about anyone he met. As a result, he made lifelong friends from diverse backgrounds and various walks of life. Lloyd loved to laugh, joke, and to tell a good story. Most of his stories were told with his favourite cocktail in hand, a glass of scotch. Lloyd will be remembered by many for his love of a good bargain or sale, especially one from the grocery store.
Lloyd lived life with an optimistic attitude. He was always positive, regardless of the situation. He was a man who truly loved all that life had to offer and he would want you to know that ‘everyday is a good day’.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Racine, Robert & Gauthier Beauchamp Funeral Home (271 Boulevard Saint-Joseph in Hull, Québec) on Friday, June 7th at 11am, with a reception to follow. People are welcome to arrive at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers or donations, please consider raising a glass in Lloyd’s honour and sharing your favourite memory of him with your family or friends. Cheers to you, Dad.
