William Raymond Conde, Sr., 91, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2014, in Manteca, CA. Bill was born on June 2, 1922, in St. Louis, MO. He grew up in Jennings, MO. He married Eleanor Mae Smith of Richmond Heights, MO in 1942. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and after. For many years he was employed as a buyer for several departments at Vandervoort's department stores in St. Louis, MO and lived in North St. Louis County. Prior to Vandervoort's closing in 1969, he moved his family to Overland Park, KS to take a job with Goodwin Sporting Goods of Kansas City, MO and later moved with his wife to Omaha NE to work for Pamida Stores until he retired at age 65. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Turlock, CA where they lived until he suffered a stroke in late 2008. Upon recovery, he and his wife took up residence at Merrill Gardens in Manteca, CA in 2009. He served as an elder and Sunday School Superintendent at Christ Presbyterian Church in St. Louis, MO. For many years he enjoyed golfing, but his greatest pastime was his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. He remained a steadfast fan until his dying day.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Margaret Arnold Conde, brothers John and Robert Conde, and sisters, Margaret Hoefer and Katherine Strele, and grandson David Conde. He is survived by his wife Eleanor, their sons William (Jr.), Gary, Daniel and Kevin, and, their wives Shirley, Katy, Vickie and Mary Conde (respectively), as well as 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Monday, January 27th, from 4 to 8 PM. Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, January 28th, at 1 PM; both at Lakewood Funeral Home Riverside Chapel, 900 Santa Fe Ave, Hughson, CA 95326. Interment & reception to follow at Lakewood. Donations in lieu of flowers can be directed to the American Cancer Society in memory of William Conde.
