On December 24th, 2013 at 10:57pm the world lost Sonneva Gay Hodge, at the age of 68. Gay was an independent, brave, and funny woman who knew how to make every minute count, even in her final days; best known for her infectious laugh and big smiles. Gay was surrounded by family and friends at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson, when she passed away from complications from cancer.
Gay was born in Modesto, CA on July 11, 1945 and went to Modesto High School where she graduated in 1963. Gay met Tony Hodge and they married in 1963. Gay and Tony lived in Modesto and raise 2 boys, Reagan and Shane Hodge. Gay made her living as a Salon Manager. She was a cherished co-worker and loved by all the clients who walked through the door. Gay retired from Salon ChezBeau in June 2013.
Gay was a loving, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was loved by so many. She enjoyed gardening, trips to the casino and spending time with family and friends; especially on the Holidays.
Gay was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mildred Smith, and her brother Benny Smith. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Tony Hodge, sons: Regan (Stacy) Hodge and Shane Hodge, brother, Larry Smith, sister, Joy (Ray) Klopf, grandchildren: Tawny Reader, Meghan, Chalis, Audrey, Charley and Macen Hodge, great-grandchildren: Amelia Reader and Carson Hodge. She is also survived by, nieces, nephews and cousins: Scott and Michelle Klopf (and their daughter Cassie), Randy Klopf, Mary Beth Butler, Greg Smith, Justin Smith and her eternal friend, Kelly Powers.
Funeral services will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 900 Santa Fe Ave. Hughson CA 95326. Visitation is on Sunday, January 5th from 12-4pm. Chapel service is on Monday, January 6th at 10:00am. (visitation and service will both be held in the Heritage Chapel).
In lieu of flowers donations can be made, in memory of Sonneva Gay Hodge, to Alexander Cohen Hospice House, via Community Hospice of Modesto.
Gay was a great wife, mother and friend and will be missed by all.
