Roger Alan Long, age 67 of Riverbank California peacefully passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Alexander Cohen Hospice House, Hughson California. He was born to William and Ella Long on August 4, 1947 in Stockton California. He was a 1965 graduate of Downey high school. Roger began his working experience at Angelo's Market in 1963. In 1972 he entered the California Highway Patrol academy and began his career with the CHP. His career took him to Los Angeles, Los Banos, Hayward, and finally back to Modesto. He ended his career with the Highway Patrol after 34 years as a member of the Stanislaus County Auto Task force (STANCATT).
In 1971 he met the love of his life, Terry Phillips. Together they spent 44 happy years together being business partners, traveling to their second home at Lake Tahoe, and their special retreat in Cabo San Lucas. Roger was mechanically inclined and could fix almost anything which he took great pride in. He was a kind, compassionate, and caring man to all he met, and will be greatly missed.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents William and Ella Long, and his brother Randy Long. He is survived by his loving wife Terry Long, sister Pam (Jerry) Richichi of Modesto, brother Rodney (Carla) Long of Sonora, sister-in-law Carla Long of Manteca, sister Pam (JD) King of Modesto, and many nieces and nephews.
An outdoor Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 17th at 10:00AM at Lakewood Memorial Park Heritage Garden, 900 Santa Fe Avenue in Hughson. If you are so inclined, please make a donation in Roger’s honor to your favorite charity.
