Melvin Emmitt Harris was one of nine children, preceded in death by his parents; Claude and Ruth Harris; siblings, Nancy Perez, Norita Mears, Roy Harris, Edward Pike, William Pike, Betty Thompson, Helen Pruitt, and 3 grandchildren, Wade Carson, Zachary Fairbanks, and Cassandra Fairbanks. He is survived by his wife, Mary Harris of 57 years and brother Richard Harris; children, Dee Robertson, Steven (and Cindy) Harris, Lisa Carson, Kristina (and John) Alameda, and Diana (and Andy) Perez; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Melvin was born in Los Angeles, California, on March 14, 1941. He moved to Modesto, California in 1946. He attended Modesto High School, before going into the Army. Melvin worked at Gallo Winery in Modesto, California as a Warehouse Shift Superintendent for 33 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a Medic. He was a loving son, husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. Family and friends were everything to him, and he spent his life investing into the people he loved. He loved everything: darts, bowling, and camping, to working on projects at his home and around his cabin, and especially sharing stories and laughs with his family. He was his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s greatest fan.
A chapel service will be held on Friday, April 30, at 1:00 PM, at Lakewood Funeral Home, in the Private Estate Garden at 900 Santa Fe Ave., Hughson, CA. Immediately following the service, family and loved ones are invited to gather at the gravesite if they wish to
