Mary Lucille Fleming

Mary Lucille (Campbell) Fleming was born on February 4, 1918 in Springfield, Alabama to her mother Florence Olivia Kelley and her father Killis Garfield Campbell. She was one of nine children born to the Campbell’s. She attended Springfield School. The family moved near Peppertown, Tennessee where Lucille attended the Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she was baptized at the age of 12.

On December 24, 1933 she married Theodore (Ted) Fleming (deceased) at the Peppertown Church. They lived near Liberty Grove, Tennessee till moving to California in 1939. She and Ted had three children: Liannol “Bud”, Mary Wynell, and Doyce Ray (deceased).

Lucille worked for many local processing companies, retiring in her late 60’s. She lived in Waterford, California for nearly to 70 years, and only recently moved to Sonora, California.

Lucille was a skilled quilter and made many one-of-a-kind quilts for her family. She was known for her faithful attendance at her home church, Waterford First Southern Baptist where she attended both Sunday school and church.

The mother of three is survived by her son Liannol and his wife Mary of Letcher, South Dakota; her daughter Mary Wynell and her husband Ed Curley of Janesville, Wisconsin; her grandsons Kenneth Fleming of Sonora, Ricky Curley of Milton, Wisconsin; Lonnie Fleming of Valdez, Alaska; Brian Curley of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; granddaughters Kim (Fleming) van Walleghen of Letcher, South Dakota; Amy (Fleming) Davis of Hughson, California. She is great-grandmother to 15, and great-great-grandmother to 13. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Her eldest grandson, Michael Curley is deceased.
