Louise Melvina Cree passed away on Friday, October 3, 2014 at the age of 97. She was born in Waterford, CA on January 24, 1917, to Henry Hampton and Ruth Mae Turpen. She was the first baby born in Stanislaus County that year. Louise went to grammar school in Waterford and to Oakdale High School. In High School she was very athletic and was a member of the tumbling team and also played basketball.
Louise married her Oakdale High School sweetheart, Ralph Leland Cree, in 1937. They met in high school on the school bus that Ralph was driving. They were happily married for 73 loving years until his death in 2010. They enjoyed traveling in their travel trailers, camping, rock hunting and flea markets together. In her younger years, she was very talented and creative in the art of crocheting various stuffed animals, many of which won awards at the San Joaquin County Fair. Louise was a homemaker all her life, caring for and nurturing her wonderful family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed.
Louise was preceded in death by her brothers: Stanley, Russell and Robert Turpen and sister, Norma Atkinson. She is survived by her son, William (Merriann) Cree, daughter, Shirley Cree all of Stockton, granddaughters: Diane Cree-Spradling (Sergio) of Sausalito, and Karen (Rick) Siegel of San Jose, great-grandson, Tyler William Siegel, brother, Everett "Bud" Turpen and sister, Marjory Yates. The family is so appreciative of Shirley and her years of dedication in caring for her mom. We all loved "Grandma" so much and will miss her sense of humor and sweet smile.
Funeral services will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Hughson, CA. visitation on Thursday, Oct. 9th from 4-8:00pm. Graveside service on Friday, Oct. 10th at 1:00pm. in the Pioneer Garden.
