Preceded in death by his parents Francisco and Tomasa Perez.
His beloved wife Nancy Perez and daughter Cindy Brasil. He is survived by daughters Stephanie Cordero (Greg Cordero) Jenny Johnson (Tom Johnson) and son Jose Perez (Monita Perez).
Son-in-law Manuel Brasil Sr. and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great great
grandchild.
Joe was born in Agana, Guam and was the third of seven siblings.
He survived the invasion of Guam during World War II. At the age of 16, he moved to the United
States where he attended Bellarmine College Preparatory school in San Jose, California. After
graduation, he joined the United States ARMY and served during the Korean War. After serving
his country he moved to Modesto, California where he met his true love Nancy Harris. They
married in February 1956 and raised four children.
Joe worked as a salesman in the food service industry for many years. In his free time, he was
extremely active in his community as a member and former President of Kiwanis Club,
American Legion and VFW.
He enjoyed spending time with his family camping, traveling and playing cards. On any given
weekend, you would find him in the bleachers watching one of his many grandchildren and/or
nieces and nephews playing the sports they loved. His passion for sports was unmatched and in
his later years he was known to be super competitive at his local gym when it came to volleyball.
For 87 years, Joe has lived his life in service to his family and his country, and was known by
many as “Grandpa Joe” whether they were related to him or not. Private services are to be held
in his name, and he will be laid to rest at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson, CA. In lieu of
flowers, please make a donation in his honor to VFW Post 3199 Modesto, CA or American
Legion Post 74 Modesto, CA.
