Hank was born in Vijhuizen, Holland on June 24, 1936. As a young man he left the Netherlands to come to America and settle in the Central Valley, initially in Lodi in 1959. The love of his life Ada came with him, they were married in November 1960 and shared a wonderful life together for 56 years. Hank is the sixth of seven children born to Dignum and Catharina Schoorl of Holland. He is survived by his five children: Andy (Cindy) Schoorl, Maria (Glen) Gollnick, Annette (Marcus) Romani, Frances (Paul) Fogarty and John (Paula) Schoorl. Thirteen adored grandchildren Joe (Lesley), Katie (Matt), Elizabeth, Marissa, Kara, Justin, Alicia, Anna, Julie, Peter, Brendan, Ella, Evan and great grand-daughter Ellie will miss their beloved Opa and Great Opa and his laughter and love. He is survived by family and friends in Holland.
Hank and Ada built from nothing the successful Schoorl Dairy in East Modesto and raised their family there. He was a founding member of St. Joseph’s Parish and was extremely active in many church activities. He actively served in the St. Vincent DePaul food pantry, numerous parish festivals, church councils, bereavement ministry and as a general "whatever you need me to do" worker. He was also active in the dairy community as a member of the Modesto Milling and Production Credit Association boards as well as being a great neighbor and friend. He was a strong supporter of St. Stanislaus School and Central Catholic High School assisting with Bingo, BASH or anything else needed.
He slowly passed from our presence over the past year but was always so kind, grateful and continuing to find humor and joy in his family, friends and care givers at Samaritan Village. We are grateful for the kind and loving care he received from Samaritan Village Orchard House, Country Manor and Alexander Cohen Hospice House.
