Gayle passed away Friday morning at Memorial North surround by his wife Chris (Christiane) of 61 years and his children Earnie Johnson (Judy) of Modesto, Steve Johnson of Manteca and Karen (Gary) Schoen of Modesto. Grandchildren Nichole (Tim) Solis of Sonora and Garrett, Brandon and Jennifer Johnson of Modesto, Heather, Clinton and Kirsten Johnson of Lodi and Erik (Brooke) Fidalgo of Lodi and Elliott (Alexandria) and baby Jakson Fidalgo of Oakdale and Step-Grandson Michael Schoen. Great-grandchildern Trenton, Quinten, and McClane Solis.He is survived by his brother Jerry and sister-in-law Virginia Johnson of Modesto and Ina Schonberger of Vancouver B.C. daughter Betina and Maxi Schonberger of Vancouver B.C., Butch Phillips (Karen) of Modesto, sister Rena Foster of Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his brother David of Modesto, sister Wanda and Ana Price Philips of Oklahoma.
He was born in Stigler Oklahoma. His family moved to Modesto and Gayle from graduated from Modesto High School. Prior to his military service in the Army, he worked for Gallo Winery. He served from 1952 during the Korean conflict until 1955. He was stationed in Berlin Germany where he met Chris in 1954. He played the drums in the military band. Gayle and Chris were married in 1955 and returned to Modesto where he was re-employed Gallo Winery and worked for 42 years until he retired in 1995. Gayle enjoyed gardening, hunting, bowling and was a avid 49er and Giants fan. The Rosary will be Monday, Feb. 27th at 5:00pm. at Lakewood Chapel. The funeral is Tuesday, Feb. 28th at 9:30am. at St. Josephs Catholic Church followed with reception at Father O'Hare Hall.
the interment will be at 2:00pm. at Lakewood Cemetery with a 21 gun salute.
