Shag was born in Hayward, CA. He was interned during WWII at Topaz, UT and later graduated from Berkeley High School. Shag served in the US Army from 1961-1965. He was an avid fisherman, deep sea diver, long time member of the Aikane Fishing Club, Father, and friend to all he met. Shag was a farmer on Molokai, Hawaii for nearly 20 years before moving back to the mainland to be close to his daughter.
Shag is survived by his daughter, Paula Petersen (Jim), sisters, Mae Ferral (Larry), Jane Diamond (Tony), and niece Lisa Miller. Shag will be remembered most for having such a large circle of friends, for being a man of honor, and the most wonderful father.
A celebration of life will be held later, at a date to be determined. Shag’s ashes will be scattered along the coast of Molokai, Hawaii where he daily walked with his beloved dogs, Laia and Kella.
