Eddie Angelo Broggi, age 80, of Modesto, CA passed away Monday, the 14th of December, 2015 surrounded by family. Ed was born March 22, 1935 to the late Siro and Gertrude Broggi in San Jose, CA. He graduated from San Jose High School and later moved to Merced, CA. Eventually, he moved to Modesto, CA where he met his second wife, Barbara. When they married in 1975, he became father to Barbara's 6 children and grandfather to her 2 grandkids in addition to his own 3 children.
Ed worked as a machine mechanic for over 30 years. He worked at Tillie Lewis Foods and then Stanislaus Foods in Modesto until his retirement in 1997. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960 and was stationed in Korea. Ed adopted 3 of Barbara's children but to him, every child and grandchild was his and he loved them all with the same steadfast love. Above everything, he loved his family and was happiest when he was surrounded by them. He enjoyed traveling, camping and his R.V. club, and most of all, a good card game. If there was a card came being played, you could expect to find Ed in the middle of it. Ed was a longtime member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Modesto and served in various ministries over the years and even recently could be found standing at the door of the church greeting people as they entered. One of Ed's greatest gifts was his servant's heart. He was a truly selfless man and found joy in doing things for others. Friends and family alike were touched by his generosity, kindness, and integrity. Later in life he became affectionately known to his family as "Grumpy," but it was a term of endearment for under the tough exterior was a truly loving and giving man.
Ed is survived by his children, Diana Teunissen of Modesto, CA, Jerry Ross (David) of Eureka, MT, Mark Broggi of Sandpoint, ID, Michael Broggi, Christopher Broggi (Kristi) of Tigard, OR, Deborah Broggi, Lee Broggi of Fresno, CA, and Susan Wares (Robert) of Ceres, CA. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents Siro and Gertrude, his wife Barbara in 2009, his son Curt, and his brother Leroy.
Visitation will be on December 29th, 2015 from 4-8pm at Lakewood Funeral Home, Hughson, CA. A memorial service will be held on December 30th, 2015 in the Heritage Chapel at Lakewood Funeral Home with a graveside service immediately following. A reception will be held at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Modesto following the graveside service. Remembrances may be made to Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 1600 Carver Rd.
