Dave Mendonca was born April 8, 1945, in Merced, California to Dave and Bernice Mendonca. Dave was raised in Turlock, CA. After high school Dave was looking for a challenge. So, he joined the United States Navy in August of 1963. Dave was stationed on the USS MIDWAY during the Vietnam war. When his enlistment ended, he was Honorably Discharged in April of 1968. Dave wanted to continue his education after the Navy and did so by attending Modesto Junior College.
A few years later, Dave met Shirley Lawson of Modesto, California. Soon after their meeting, they decided to marry. Shirley had children from a previous marriage, two boys Jeff age 6 and Mike age 9. After taking on this new challenge and responsibility, Dave decided to move his new family to the Bay Area. The move was driven by his recent employment by Tri Valley Growers in their San Francisco Headquarters. After working all day at his new job at Tri Valley he also attended Golden Gate University at night where he received a certificate in Transportation. Dave continued with his education at the University of San Francisco where he received a bachelor’s degree in business.
Dave went on to work for S&W Fine Foods as Transportation Manager in San Mateo, California and Dompe Warehouse in Crows Landing, California before retiring in 2010.
Dave enjoyed traveling in their motor home and spending time outdoors. Dave’s favorite outdoor adventures and challenges included boating, water skiing, snow skiing and fishing. Dave also enjoyed competing in tractor-pulling events, and when not pulling at the events he would do double duty by announcing.
Dave cherished time spent with friends and family. Dave was a man with a huge heart, and he enjoyed helping others. He made a difference in many lives. When not traveling Dave devoted his free time to volunteering to help his community and his fellow club members.
