He was born on October 29, 1952 to parents Enrique Martinez and Cecilia Soto Martinez in Puerto Rico. When he came of-age, Carlos enlisted in the Armed Forces and served over 23 years, with a majority of that time spent in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in a total of three wars and was rewarded three Purple Hearts for his time with the Armed Forces.
When he returned home from the Marine Corps, Carlos set his roots in California. In 2010, he met his wife Mabel, and the two became inseparable. Carlos spent his free time outdoors, becoming an avid gardener and enjoying his succulents. He was also a marathon runner, successfully completing a 26-mile marathon in San Diego. When he was not outdoors, he spent his time with his family and beloved dogs.
Carlos is survived by his wife Mabel Martinez; his children Carlos Jr., Lydia, Sarah, and Daniel; his brother Felix and sisters Eva and Ramonita; 9 grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Carlos is preceded in passing by his parents, Enrique and Cecilia Martinez.
A memorial service for Carlos will be held on Monday, September 16 at 10:00 AM in the Heritage Chapel at Lakewood Funeral Home, located at 900 Santa Fe Avenue in Hughson. After the service, Carlos will be laid to rest in the Garden of Valor at Lakewood Memorial Park. In honor of his service, an Honor Guard will be present.
