Beverly Jane Burke passed away on Sunday, November 18th at Acacia Park Nursing Home in Modesto. Beverly was born in her family home on Beverly Ave. in Modesto on April 28, 1932. She was the daughter of Daniel Fabian Burke, one of the first Optometrists in Modesto, his office was on J street and Clara Jane Burke, R.N. in the old Robertson and McPheeters Hospitals in old downtown Modesto. Beverly was raised on Beverly Ave., which was later changed to Burke Ave., she graduated from Modesto High School, class of 1950. Beverly was a successful businesswoman, worked many years at the old Library downtown and worked the bookmobile to conveniently bring books to businesses and schools. Beverly was employed 20 years in the Dept. of Education – Audio Visual Dept. as a Media Booking Clerk. Beverly was active in many organizations: 58-year member of Job’s Daughters: Past Honored Queen and Bethel Guardian of #42, Modesto Past Bethel Guardian or #156, Riverbank Past Bethel Guardian #171, Ceres Grand 4th Messenger, State of California 1972 50-year member Order of Amaranth, Past Royal Matron 25-year member of Electa, Order of Eastern Star Past member of White Shrine Past President of Modesto Senior Citizens, 3 years Past President of Women’s Progressive Club Past President of Native Daughters of the Golden West – Morada Parlor #199
And after retiring from County Schools in 1995, Beverly continued her service dedication as President of Parkview Christian Estates Association for numerous years, volunteered for Delta Blood Bank for 4 years and crocheted close to 700 newborn hats for Memorial Hospital in Modesto.
Beverly Jane Burke is survived by her brother In-Law, Daryl Carlson; daughter, Gillian Layton; daughter, Nanette Schali-Kalouris (husband Nicholas) and son, Philip Schali (wife Cindy). Five grandchildren, Jason Conley (wife Ileana), Danielle, Isaac, Tiffany, Brittany and four great grandchildren, Anna, Chloe, Madison and Bailey. Beverly is survived by several loving nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. She would want to acknowledge all her friends at Parkview Christian Estates, where she was a resident for 10 Years and her friends at Acacia Park, where she was a resident for 2 Years. A memorial service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park, on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.
