She was born to George and Ada Holtzclaw on December 29, 1918 in Corcoran, California. Anita was the youngest of six children; she had two older brothers, Homer and Herschel and three older sisters, Maude, Vesta and Evelyn. During the 1960s, Anita worked as a psychiatric technician at Modesto State Hospital, and then was employed at Modesto Junior College as a fitness and water aerobics instructor for over 25 years. She was an outgoing person and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Anita retired in 2005 at the age of 86, although her original plans had been to work until she was 90. Anita could always be found working in her yard, even during the winter. She did her own gardening and mowed her lawn until recently. Anita also enjoyed making porcelain dolls and had a collection of dolls and antiques. She was previously an active member of the Modesto Dollers Doll Club.
Anita was loved dearly by her children, Craig Brown and Gerry Sherman, grandchildren, Carl Brown, Mike Sherman, Cheri Parreira, and Scott Sherman, six great grandchildren and one great great grandson. She is preceded in death by her baby son Gary and husband George Roberts.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 1:30 PM in the Riverside Chapel at Lakewood Funeral Home with interment to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
