Alice was born to Howard and Evelyn Stewart in Fellsburg, Kansas, in 1923. The Stewart family moved to Modesto around 1938. Alice graduated from Modesto High School in 1941. Soon thereafter she met her future husband, Robert Barbour, at a local dance at the California Ballroom; they were married in 1941. She was an active member of the Gratton community, serving many years as a volunteer including working at the local elections polling location. She was a member of the Denair Missionary Church for many years. Alice and Bob raised six children on their ranch where they primarily farmed peaches and almonds. After 46 years of marriage, Bob passed in 1987. After his passing, Alice loved spending her time with her children and grandchildren and also very much enjoyed gardening. She is survived by her six children: Linda Maddox of Modesto, Karen Barbour of Fresno, Sandra Dalby of Modesto, Robert (Vicky) Barbour of Turlock, Barbara (Stan) Feathers of Turlock, and Barry (Grant) Barbour of San Francisco; 3 sisters: Jane Jones of Portland, Oregon, Jerrie Fairless of Klamath Falls, Oregon, and Freda Larmer of Hillsboro, Oregon; ten grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home, in the Riverside Chapel, on Saturday, Dec. 8th at 2:00pm.
