He was born and raised in Waterbury, CT on July 12, 1940 to the late James and Kathleen (Brown) Johnston. Bob joined the military in1962 after graduating from Sacred Heart High School and then married Yvette Duplessis on June 8, 1963.
Among his survivors are his wife of 55 years, Yvette Johnston; his 3 sons: Robert Jr and his wife, Sarah of Spring Hill, FL, Donald and his wife Mary of Floral City,FL, and Scott of Biloxi, MS; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 6 siblings: Richard Johnston and his wife, Marsha of Watertown, CT,Gerald Johnston and his wife, Marie of Oakville, CT, Judith Johnston of Waterbury, CT, Sandra Bartolini of Waterbury, CT, Carol Johnston of Wolcott, CT, and Marion Hutchins and her husband, Gary of Waterbury, CT.
After leaving the military, Bob went to work for Venus Mfg. in Wolcott, CT for 20 years working his way up to a Supervisor/Management. Then moved to Florida to work for BF Goodrich in Oldsmar, FL for 20 years as a machinist and an inspector before retiring.
Bob enjoyed golf, working with his hands, spending time with family, reading, and was a Boy Scout Leader for many years when his boys were growing up.
He will always be remembered as a great story teller, having a ready smile, and a happy family man.
Mass will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 17th at 10:30 AM. A Celebration of Life and interment will directly follow Mass at Grace Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
