Rhonda Lucille Day was born July 15, 1950 at Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital in Manhattan, New York to parents Leonard and Marie DeCasseres. She was the oldest sibling of two brothers and two sisters. She was baptized at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, and always considered that her home church. One of her proudest moments was being selected as the poster girl for the Girl Scouts of America by her local troop. Rhonda graduated from James Monroe High School in 1968 and attended Fordham University. Rhonda worked for NY Telephone Co/NYNEX in New York. She also worked for Fashion Fair where she became their first representative at Bloomingdales. After moving to Florida, she worked for Bank of America, and Forest Oaks Assisted Living Facility where she was adored by both her peers and residents.
In 1980 she was introduced to David Day and four years later they were married June 2, 1984. In 1989, they relocated with their children to Spring Hill, Florida. Most recently, she attended Northcliff Baptist Church, where she found joy in the uplifting Sunday services. In her leisure time, Rhonda enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and spending time with friends. As the family matriarch, she always made time to contact family members and visit her grandchildren, who she adored. Among family and friends, Rhonda was affectionately regarded as a calm and caring soul who provided advice and support to all who asked.
Although Rhonda lost her battle with lung cancer and earned her wings, March 2, 2012 she gave us courage and hope while reminding us of the preciousness of life. Her tender smile, selfless attitude, wise and tranquil spirit won her friends from varying walks of life. Rhonda was a gentle woman who remained dedicated to humanitarian causes, spending much of her time assisting others to triumph through adversity. She actively contributed to several charities while donating her time to children and the elderly. Her life would seem too short to many, but to those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives.
Rhonda is celebrated by her loving husband, David Day; daughter, Camille (Derek) Breland, Danielle Day; grandsons Dominique and Jordan Breland, and David Zachary Bonner; brothers David and Leonard (Teresa) DeCasseres; sisters Esther Jeppson and Leslie DeCasseres; aunts Janet Burgess, Eleanor Booker, and Yvonne Swann; uncles Raymond (Stella) Swann, Arthur Swann, Robert (Thelma) Swann; lifelong friend, Margretta Reid Fairweather; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
