Yelina Dorta, age 99, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2019 in Missouri City, Texas. She was born July 12, 1920 in Pinar Del Rio, Cuba to Ramon Jose’ Bulies and Maria Hernandez as the youngest of nine children.
While living in Cuba, Yelina met her husband, Alberto Dorta, through a mutual friend. She and Alberto, a widow raising two sons alone, were married on September 14,1968. After only four months of becoming a wife and a mother, her new family left for Madrid, Spain while she remained in Cuba teaching second grade as an elementary school teacher. A year later, the family was happily reunited and continued their life in Spain for over two years. On February 14, 1972, the family of four reached their final destination, Houston, Texas, where Yelina continued her career as a teacher’s aid in a bilingual program.
Yelina was a devoted Catholic, dedicated wife and admired stepmother. She is survived by her stepsons, Alberto Dorta, Jr., his wife Barbara and Roberto Dorta and his wife Mary; her grandchildren, Carlos Alberto Dorta, Shanine Dorta, Aleece Hobson and Amanda Dorta; her great grandchildren Carlos Alexander Dorta, Alivia Dorta, Jaxson DeMar, Robert Hobson and Austin Dorta. She is preceded by death by her mother, father, two brothers, six sisters, and her loving husband of 46 years Alberto Dorta.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Optimum Personal Care Center, Missouri City, Texas, where she was a resident since June 2018. They provided Yelina with exceptional care, in a kind and loving environment. Her family will be forever grateful, and she will be missed.
A visitation for Yelina will be held Thursday, August 8, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Advantage Funeral Home Chapel, 7010 Chetwood Dr., Houston, TX 77081. A funeral service will occur there on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 10:00 AM followed by the interment at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077.
