It is with great sadness that the family of Xavier Alexander Barron announce his sudden passing. Xavier passed December 30, 2019 at the tender age of 22 years old. Though Xavier departed in body, his spirit resounds through the permanence of his work and compassion.
Described as a calming force amid the chaos, Xavier dedicated his life’s work to empowering and uplifting others in need, specifically those in recovery. A young man of many achievements, some of Xavier’s most notable include: elected as the youngest member of the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals Board of Directors, volunteering with the Crisis Intervention Team at the Burning Man Project, participating in the ManKind Project, and serving orphanages throughout India alongside the Miracle Foundation. While he partnered and volunteered with numerous organizations, Xavier’s primary focus was as Program Manager for the Palmer Drug Abuse Program in Houston, Texas. Xavier was a grounding force for friends, colleagues, and strangers alike – he brought joy to the hearts privileged to know him and held space for people from all walks of life. Since his passing, Xavier’s family has received testimony after testimony from those whose lives he touched through his mentorship, gentle hand, and dependable nature.
Though in his adult years, Xavier’s idealism and selfless endeavors took center stage, the wonder, and intellect he encompassed as a child is forever imprinted on our hearts. Born an old soul, it was not out of the ordinary to find a very young “Javi” tackling literary classics while humming along to Patsy Cline or Al Green. His character was deeply influenced by his grandfather, Armando Almaguer, who inspired Xavier’s days as a trumpeter along with his adoration of literature and film. Eager to share his experiences with those he loved, Xavier introduced his grandmother, Cindy Alvarado, to her first symphony. He could light up the room with his smile and gentle heart. Said to be fearless in the eyes of adventure, Xavier lived to the fullest, and seemingly, savored even the smallest detail. With an affinity for the arts, Xavier dabbled in and mastered many mediums from photography to the guitar, and much in between. Never a passive participant, he approached all with zealous force - Xavier attended 100 concerts in a year, took home first and second place at his first shot of NCAA brackets, and led recovery groups at the Burning Man Project after just a single visit. He carefully curated his surroundings by only devoting time to projects that he cared most about. Xavier loved deeply and achieved abundantly.
The joys of his life were found in those whom he served. Xavier strived to change the world, never wavering on behalf of others. He worked to restore hope and usher in change and did so with a bold heart yet very tender spirit. While his absence leaves open questions behind, may we focus on the light of his spirit and the mission he stood for. If Xavier left the world wanting it to be better, how best may we honor him? Continue to walk the path of healing. Do so with purpose. Venture forth knowing that every day we are made brand new. Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven,” proclaims “loneliness [be left] unbroken!” One must ask themselves – If loneliness remains, how then can addiction be defeated, orphans loved, self-worth renewed, or people – all people – accepted in spite of their brokenness? It is in the broken places that we find the most strength. And, it is in community that we carry forward Xavier’s mission to serve, nurture, and love one another. A glance at his selfless endeavors delivers proof that his final moments will never define him. Xavier, you were once told that you would “do great things.” That you did. And, so much more.
Xavier is survived by his father, Joe Barron Jr., wife Catrina Barron, his brothers Jayden Barron, Joe Barron III, sisters Tirzah Barron and step-sister Catalya Barron. He is also survived by his mother, Jessica Almaguer Jones, her husband, Lance Jones, and his step-brother Mason Jones.
A memorial celebrating Xavier’s life will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home on Saturday. January 11, 2020. A Gathering for the Celebration of Life will be from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM with the Celebration of Xavier's Life beginning at 1:00 PM. The funeral home is located at 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas 77023.
