Maxine was born to Charles Salley and Alma (Pelton) Salley, June 2, 1931 in Saline County, Arkansas. She married Gatling Clay Garmany, `Buddy` Nov. 6, 1946 in Houston, Texas where they made their home and raised three children together. She is survived by her sons, Thomas Clay Garmany and Larry Wayne Garmany (Donna); grandchildren Shari Fisher, Jennifer Lankford (Dean), Colleen Haddad (Rudy), Kyle Garmany (Kimberly), and Katie Garmany.
Also honoring her today are thirteen great grandchildren; Samantha, Jacob, and Joshua Fisher, Clayton 'Cole' (Megan) Crutcher, Mitchell Lankford, Haley (Robert) Gardner, Rudy, Luke, Mary Katherine, and Will Haddad, Gatlin Garmany, Zoe, and Mia DeLuna and seven great great - grandchildren; Arthur 'Clay' Crutcher, Brandi and Brayden Lankford, Harley, Jewell, Maizie, and Lettie Gardner.
She also leaves to cherish her memory two sisters; Elizabeth Hardin and Dean Ashley (Vincent).
She was preceded in death by her husband of seventy-four years, 'Buddy' Garmany. Daughters, Sandra Blakeney (Bill), and baby Sharon Garmany. Siblings Charlcy Thomas (Paul), James Salley (Bertha), Florence Lawyer (Ray), Claude Salley (Beth), and Ralph Salley (Connie). Also, a brother in law, Sonny Hardin.
In addition to her primary life focus as devoted wife and mother, Maxine also worked in the quality control lab at Anchor Hocking Glass Company for over thirty years, held a real estate license and managed the family business in rental properties for over 60 years. She and Buddy worked hard to provide for their family, and that was truly their mission and greatest joy in life; to love, provide education, give financial support, or whatever was needed for their family, particularly the children. Maxine loved children, and they loved her.
When they traveled extensively for Buddy's work as a boilermaker, living in West Virginia, Delaware, Canada, and overseas in Singapore, and Indonesia, Maxine was involved in local children's programs, often organizing her own. While in Indonesia, she started a children's Sunday School Class and also taught them English. She was a member of Jacinto City United Methodist Church were she raised her children, and later in life at Holy Trinity United Methodist Church.
A memorial service is scheduled for Oct. 19, 2022 at 11:00 in the Forest Park Lawndale Colonial Chapel, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX, 77023.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff at Regency House Retirement Home in San Angelo and to Ana Davis and her family in Houston for their love and care for Buddy and Maxine in the last years of their lives.
