On a cool morning, February 16, 1923, a beautiful baby girl named Willie Mae Houston was born to Willie Houston and Lillie Mae Tatum in Marshall, Texas. At a young age, she dedicated her life to Christ. Willie Mae attended public school in Marshall, Texas. She met and married the love of her life, John Henry Rhodes on June 17, 1944. To this union, one child was born, Synovure Rhodes Dodson. Two years later, the happy couple moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where they settle and begin their life as husband and wife. Willie Mae was a hard- working woman; working in the factory at Philadelphia and as hair dresser where she owned her own salon. She loved her family and enjoyed spoiling them. She was an excellent cook and loved making meals for her family and friends. She lived a full life. A devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great, and Great- Great Grandmother, she passed peacefully Tuesday afternoon, January 16, 2018, at home surrounding by her family at the age of 94 years. Willie Mae was preceded in death by her father, Willie Houston, her mother, Lille Mae Tatum and her only daughter, Synovure Rhodes Dodson. She leaves to cherish and continue her legacy twin grandchildren, Jacquelynn Dodson, Spring, TX and Julius Walker Dodson, Jr, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; five great-grandchildren; Shawntaqua N. Dunbar, Treshawn D. Meredith, Julius W. Dodson, III, Shawntiara K. Dodson and Logan Dodson; two great-great grandchildren; Kaibon A. Meredith and Carter N. Meredith and a host of cousins.
