Dr. Willie James Hunter was born to the late Robert Hunter and Gearline Hunter –McCoy on October 10, 1945 in Bryan, College Station, Texas; he was the eldest of ten children. In which his nine siblings affectionately called him “Bubba”. He attended E. A. Kemp High School located in Bryan, Texas where he was a star football player while preparing to receive his high school diploma in 1964 and enlisted into the Army where he served in Germany “7 Steps To Hell”. Willie utilized his GI Bill to pay for his BS & MS in Technology Degree from Texas Southern University.

Willie United in Holy Matrimony with “His Lady,” Martha L. Stanberry, August 3rd 1968 and from this union, Chauncey Cordray and Charmayne Necole were born. Willie and Martha were wedded at True Light Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Morrison. Willie was a man of strong faith, tenacity and vision. Dr. Hunter had a vision for the community that encompassed God’s name and will. Willie believed in prayer and would pray for anyone as well as take the time to tell them about the word of God. On August 28th, at 9:00pm, this Strong Voice opened the Heavens looked down on earth and said, Willie, put that spear down! It’s ok, I need you to rest, No Need to Slay Any More Demons! Well done My Faithful Warrior. You have served long enough in this infantry and Dr. Hunter entered into his new address on this day. Willie is now reunited in death with his parents, and siblings Arelene, Glenora, Dunar. He leaves to cherish his memories; his wife of 52 years, Martha; son, Chauncey Hunter (Chuck); daughter, Charmayne Hunter-Spencer (Nickey); one brother, David Earl Hunter (Buck Earl), five sisters, Betty Lewis, Patsy Everline, Rosanna Brown, Debra Sweeps; four grandsons; Kebbien Spencer, Colby Spencer, Logan Spencer and Bryson Hunter and one granddaughter: Kristian Spencer; a wealth of nieces and nephews as well as community friends.
