Born in Galveston, Bill attended Lamar High School and Texas A&M University where he studied mechanical engineering and was in the Corps of Cadets. Later he served in the United States Army.
Bill worked in petrochemical engineering, both in Houston and Denver, for many firms and served as the Business Manager for El Jebel Shrine Center in Denver. He was a Past Master, 32nd Degree KCCH. He was a lifelong supporter of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band, the 12th Man Foundation and the Corps. He was a vigorous advocate for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. He loved his incredible flower garden and model railroading. He was a member of Northwoods Presbyterian Church.
He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Ruby Sweeney. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jamie Shadle Sweeney; sister-in-law, Rosalie Shadle Shanks (David); brother-in-law, William P. Braham (Mary); three nephews; one niece; two great-nephews; two great-nieces and “adopted sister,” Carolyn Stoddard.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 28th of May, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
At a later date, the family is to gather for a private inurnment at the Aggie Field of Honor in College Station.
