William Howard Prather

William (Bill) Howard Prather, 70, went to be with the Lord on October 24, 2016. He was born on 6/10/1946 in Indianapolis, IN. He is survived by his wife of 50 love-filled years, Susan (Susie) Heffernan Prather; son, Donald Prather, Don’s wife Jennifer and their son Henry; daughter, Shelly Prather Slate, Shelly’s husband Mark and their two children Matthew and Abigail. He is also survived by a sister, Judy Prather Taskoski and a brother, Leonard Robert (Bob) Prather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Hannah Prather, a brother, Alan Prather, a sister Sharon Prather Setser, and a brother, Ivor (Magee) Prather. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews and a countless number of good friends and church family.

Bill grew up in a large happy family on the east side of Indianapolis. He served his country in the US Air Force for 20 years retiring in 1983. He also worked for the United State Postal Service 21 years. His military career sent him and his family around the world where they collected a multitude of friends who are still close with them. Always an avid sports fan and a need to be involved in the lives of his children, Bill loved working with kids coaching football and baseball teams and many of his players still carry admiration and respect for him. He also was involved with many extra-curricular activities outside of sports with his children. He was a proud 4th degree in the Knights of Columbus. His ability to always see the positive side of things along with the eternal smile he brought with him wherever he went were an ever-shining aura of happiness.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 5 to 8 pm at Brookside Funeral Home located at 9149 Highway 6 North, Houston, TX 77095, (281) 345-6061. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 10:30 at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church at 11507 Huffmeister Rd, Houston, TX 7706
