William Ray Johnson was born on August 10, 1933, the only son born to Mary Langston and George Johnson of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. He grew up in Houston, Texas in Third Ward and attended Jack Yates. He later met and was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Goynes. In 1994 he joined Lyons Unity Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of O. C. Johnson, Sr. William enjoyed classic cars and he loved driving his 1947 Chevrolet Coupe. Although he wasn’t a real cowboy, he was one at heart having an admiration for western fashion. He also loved spending time and having conversations with his son-in-law, whom he loved as his own. He entered into a peaceful rest on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 after a lengthy illness. William leaves to cherish his memories: a loving wife Mary Ellen Johnson; daughter, Joyce and son-in-law Bruce Clark; son, Ray Johnson; granddaughters, Brandi and Caci Clark; and a host of relatives and friends. A special thanks to a caring family friend Charlotte Black and neighbor Joyce Davis.
