Mr. William E. Jennings

I was born Thursday, May 11, 1950, in Carbondale, Texas, Bowie County. My parents were Jerry Lee and Jerelene Louise Jennings. At an early age, I united with Mt. Obie Baptist Church. I played my prep-school ball at New Boston High School and then went on to Southern Arkansas University where I played defensive back. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in physical education and biology. I began working at Dumas High School in August of 1974 as an assistant varsity high school coach, eighth-grade basketball coach, and study hall keeper. In 1975, I met the love of my life, Zeleandor Johnson Jennings, on a blind date. The first words I said to her were “I’m going to marry you” and she just chuckled. We were later married and had a son, Brandon Conrad Jennings, in 1978. In 1980, I was a graduate assistant in charge of the defensive ends at Henderson State University where I earned my master’s in physical education. I was hired as an assistant coach at Channelview High School in August of 1981. I was an assistant coach for eight years before being named to the top spot. In 1995, I became the Athletic Director of Channelview ISD.

On Monday, July 29, 2024, I answered my final call to come to my eternal home of Glory. I was met with open arms by all family members who left before me: my parents, Jerry Lee and Jerelene Louise Jennings; sisters,Ruby Louise Jennings, Barbara L. Noel, Pearlene Jennings, and Ida Mae Jennings; brother, Preston Jennings.My family that loves and cherishes all of my memories are my beautiful wife, Zeleandor Johnson Jennings of Houston, Texas; my son Brandon Conrad Jennings of Houston, Texas, my pride and joy, Devin Jennings and D’Auna Jennings of Houston, Texas, my sister, Wanda Jennings of Arlington, Texas, and my three brothers, Gary Jennings of Grand Prairie,Texas, and J.L. Jennings, Sr., and Roy H. Jennings, both of New Boston,Texas; and I have a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A visitation for William will be held Monday, August 5, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bill Neal Center, 828 Sheldon Rd, Channelview, TX 77530. A visitation will occur Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church - New Boston, 506 S McCoy Blvd, New Boston, TX 75570. A funeral service will occur Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at First Baptist Church - New Boston, 506 S McCoy Blvd, New Boston, TX 75570. A committal service will occur Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 509 Co Rd 1001, New Boston, TX 75570.
