William Joseph Hogan (Bill) passed away at the age of 103 in Houston, Texas on May 5th, 2016. He died peacefully in his sleep with family by his side. Bill was born on March 20, 1913, the son of William and Margaret Hogan. He grew up in Birmingham, Alabama with his seven brothers and sisters.
Bill served in the U.S. Army during WW II as a member of the 55th Field Artillery Battalion. Upon his discharge in 1945, he returned stateside and settled in Houston where he later met and married Mary Evans Carpenter. Bill built a highly respected career at EF Hutton where his conservative client-first style of stock and bond management was deeply admired by Clients. Generations of Houston families and successful financial professionals have benefitted from the legacy of Bill's investment expertise.
Bill lived his life to the fullest, dedicated to his family and career. His strong work ethic and ability to push for excellence allowed him to lead a long, healthy life. He developed an interest in athletics at an early age including gymnastics and boxing. He was a long-standing member of the Houston Country Club where he enjoyed playing tennis well into his 80’s. He was known for being fiercely independent and also a good friend and caring father.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Mary Evans Hogan who passed away in 1995. He is survived by his daughter Mary Catherine Ford and husband Darwin Ford of Hot Springs, Arkansas; his son William Joseph Hogan Jr. and wife Jennifer Nicole Hogan of Houston, Texas; his brother Thomas Hogan of Birmingham, Alabama as well as numerous other nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in Houston on Friday May 13, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a funeral service following on Saturday May 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel will be officiated by Pastor Jeff Anderson of Kerrville a longtime friend.
Honorary pallbearers are Lawrence Conklin, John Cook, Darwin Ford, John Justice, Eugene Shepherd, James Ulmer and Robert Eugene Zimmerman.
