He was preceded in death by both his parents, his four siblings, Laurice, Reba, Paul, Talmadge, and his wife, Tommie.
Charles was raised on his parents' farm. He helped work the farm until he went to college. William Charles Hicks served in the Navy during WWII. He had started college and then returned to college after serving. He attended The University of Texas where he received a degree in Petroleum Engineering and met the love of his life, Tommie Mae Tanner. They married in 1948 and he went to work for the Treasury Department in 1950 as a Petroleum Engineer. He worked as an Engineer Manager for the Treasury Department from 1973 to 1989 when he retired.
Charles was a member of Kingsland Baptist Church in Katy, Texas and attended regularly either in person or through computer connections. Before this, he attended and was a Deacon at Spring Woods Baptist Church. There he served on the Finance Committee, Bus Committee and has maintained friendships with members of the church.
He adored his family and loved spending time with close and extended family members. William Charles Hicks was married 67 years to Tommie Mae Hicks. He is survived by his children, William Charles Hicks Jr. and Sherry Ann Hicks Strunk and husband Thomas Eugene Strunk; grandsons: Robert Alan Strunk and his wife Cassandra Garza Strunk, Jacob Thomas Strunk and wife Adrianna Trevino Strunk; great grandchildren, Maddison Strunk and Gerrit Strunk; and many other loving family members and friends.
In addition to flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to Christian Missions or for Benevolence funds at Spring Woods Baptist Church or Kingsland Baptist Church.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, May 12th at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079, from 5 to 8pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 13th, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home starting at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
