William H Hester, was also known to many as Mr. Bill. In his younger years he grew up in Houston and in Port Lavaca; raised his family in Houston. He was enlisted in the US Navy and served 4 years and 1 month from 1962-1966. He was a coach and mentor too many kids through the years in football and baseball. He supported Rie and Billy with other interests that they had, and always gave advice on how it should be done, (his way). Along with supporting his grandchildren’s interests, Austin, Hannah, Pierson, and Shyla. He was a true prankster at heart. If you were a recipient of such prank(s), you know what I’m talking about. He had a tremendous love for fishing, hunting, baseball, football, dancing and being with family. When he wasn’t at one of the ball parks, he was fishing or hunting each chance he got. He used his imagination to come up with things we could do as a family that didn’t cost, but could be memorable; like crawfish catching off Beltway 8, berry pick’n, fishing, or even picking up golf balls behind H and H golf course. He was a plumber by trade and a member of Local 68 Plumber’s Union for 50 plus years. He was also a City of Houston plumbing inspector, till he took early retirement to care for his bride of 45 years till her passing in November of 2009. He took pride in his work and was a true perfectionist to a fault. All that knew him, knew he was a good man, and full of giving back to others. He valued truth, and didn’t have a gray area in his assessment of truth. He had a hot temper, however in his later years relied on his wife before her passing to temper him. He also had a love for food; steak, shrimp, Whataburger hamburgers, James Coney Island hotdogs, apple pie, rootbeer and chocolate shakes just to name a few. He’s eye for fashion was definitely lacking, or you could say he had a style all his own. Most times, you would see him in coach’s shorts, t-shirt, white tube socks, tennis shoes and a ball cap. He once tried wearing all that, with a pair of gray dress shoes, and that’s where I drew the line.
Since May of 2021 Bill’s health, physically and mentally quickly declined after his 2nd COVID shot. Congestive Heart Failure is the main reason listed as his departure from this life into the next, however it makes you wonder.
He was preceded by his mother, Grace Amelia (Pry) Wells, his father, Jim Belcher Hester, his wife Annharad (Newman) Hester, and his brother, Roger Hester.
