William (Lucky) J. Hardy, Jr., age 87, died peacefully Monday, June 19, 2017, with his wife by his side. He was born September 5, 1929, in Mingo Junction, Ohio to William & Leah Hardy. He grew up and went to school in South Charleston, West Virginia. After graduation he served in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy. He worked for United Carbon and transferred to Houston where he worked for Ashland Oil 25 years where he met his wife Darlene. They were married on August 31, 1968. He retired after working for Texaco 10 years. He is survived by his loving wife Darlene, brother Paul, brothers-in-law Duane (Betty) Gingerich, Gary Gingerich, sisters-in-law Charlene Dawson, Sonja (Scott) Crichton, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters-in-law Martha Hardy and Maxine Burden, brothers-in-law Duane Dawson and David Gingerich. He received the Scottish Rite degrees in the Valley of Odell Squire Long, West Virginia then transferred his Scottish Rite membership to the Valley of Houston, Texas on December 7, 1974. He was a 65 year Master Mason and received his K.C.C.H. in 1985 and his 33rd degree in 1995, a member of Gray Lodge No. 329, Arabia Shrine, & York Rite. He was also a member of Westminster United Methodist Church. A special thanks to the Kelsey-Seybold doctors and nurses and the Vantage Hospice team along with Reach caregivers. He will be missed by many who knew him as a loving and wonderful friend but most of all by his caring wife. Memorial Services will be held Thursday, July 13, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Westminster United Methodist Church, and the Military and Masonic services will be held Friday, July 14, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at the VA cemetery located at 10410 Veterans Memorial, Houston, TX 77038. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Vantage Hospice, 21720 Kingsland Blvd, Suite 301, Katy, TX 77450, or Westminster United Methodist Church, 5801 San Felipe, Houston, TX 77057 or a charity of your choice.
