William Horace Hancock, 99, passed from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Tuesday, August 20, 2013. Bill was born in Bishop, Georgia on November 2, 1913. He graduated from Bishop High School and attended the University of Georgia, where he pursued general studies and was the catcher for the baseball team.
In July of 1936, he married the love of his life, Charlotte Peacock, and they enjoyed life together until her passing in 2005.
Bill began his career with the US Forestry Service from 1937 until 1944, when he joined Tennessee Gas Transmission Company (TGT), as employee number 52. He was involved in the development of their pipeline system across the eastern part of the country, until settling in Houston in 1952. He retired from Tenneco (successor to TGT) in 1979. In 1956, Bill was one of the founders of the Pipeliners Association of Houston, where he enjoyed many activities with his fellow members, as he did with members of the Tenneco Retirees Club.
Survivors include sons, Bill Hancock and wife, Linda; Bob Hancock and wife, Deborah; John Hancock and wife, Ann; and Don Hancock. One of Bill's great joys were his seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Don Hancock, Trent Hancock, Steven Hancock, John Hancock, Ryan Berry, and Kevin Berry. Honorary pallbearers will be the TGT STOB Drivers and Bill's friends from the Weekley Family YMCA.
Visitation and services will be held at Forest Park Westheimer, 12800 Westheimer Road, with visitation at 9:00 a.m. and services at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, August 26, 2013.
