Born and raised in Somerset, Texas to Bill and Dorothy Goodman, Dale excelled in a great number of opportunities the south Texas town had to offer - ranging from academics, athletics, theatre and even showmanship through his local FFA. Following High School, Dale attended San Antonio College for 2 years where he was a member of the golf team. He then received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from the University of Texas in Austin in 1973. During his time at college, Dale met Dottie Swenson. Dale immediately knew she was "the one" and a lifelong bond of friendship was forged. The two were married in 1974 and remained in Austin to raise their family.
Upon graduation, Dale began his career at the City of Austin/Austin Energy where he ultimately oversaw utility customer service and business services as a Deputy Officer. Following his long tenure with the City of Austin, Dale worked at the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) where he lead various endeavors for the institution including retail client services and analysis, and served until his retirement as Director of Training and Professional Development.
Dale was a man of great integrity, wit and devotion. Whether he was a close friend or first-time acquaintance, Dale's energetic and gregarious personality was immediately noticed by all. He also found great joy in the everyday events in life that most take for granted. These special gifts derived numerous friendships over his lifetime through a myriad of interests - especially golf teams, bowling leagues and fishing excursions. Additionally, he possessed a real love for music, film, UT football and (seemingly) endless Texas trivia, and there was rarely a person Dale could not immediately establish a common bond with upon meeting.
Dale's wife, children and grandchildren remained his most successful achievements. Dale is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dottie, his daughter, Amber Goodman Young (husband Preston Young), his son William Charles "Charlie" Goodman (wife Shelbi Adair Goodman), grandchildren Charlotte Young, Holt Young, Sheridan Young, Virginia Young, mother Dorothy Goodman, sister Susie Goodman Wilson (brother-in-law Ray Wilson); nephew Brandon Wilson (wife Crystal Price Wilson), great nephew Isaac Wilson, great niece Genevieve Wilson and many other close family members. Dale is preceded in death by his father and mentor, Bill Goodman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in support of the schools for his grandchildren - Western Academy (1511 Butlercrest St., Houston, TX 77080) and Magnolia School (9902 Long Point Rd, Houston, TX 77055) - in Dale's memory, and in support of Dottie's school, University of Texas-University Charter School (2200 E. 6th St, Austin, TX 78702).
