William Petersen Glaros, 74, of Houston, Texas, peacefully passed on September 22, 2022 surrounded by family. Throughout his extended journey with ALS, Bill persevered each day with diligence and faith.
Bill was born in Weslaco, Texas to John Glaros and Ruth Petersen. He grew up in Palacios and Houston, embraced by the love and fun of aunts, uncles, and especially, cousins. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 52 years, Joanne Glaros; three children: Amy Glaros, Melissa Moore (Joseph), and Patrick Glaros (Jayme); seven grandchildren: Micah, Vera, Maddox, Katherine, William, Walter, and Winston; brother Michael Glaros (Nyda); aunt Eunice Pappadas and cousin John Pappadas; and many loved ones from the Petersen, Glaros, and Koetter families.
A graduate of Memorial High School, Class of 1966, Bill was co-captain of the legendary football team and received the “Fighting Heart Award.” He attended Southern Methodist University (c/o 1970) with a full scholarship as part of the Mustang football team and was also in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He continued his involvement at SMU as a member of the Mustang Club and father of two SMU graduates.
Bill became a dentist in 1974 after graduating Baylor College of Medicine. For 45 years, he compassionately listened to his patients and felt honored by their trust in his God-given care, skill, and judgment. His extensive advocacy for safe dental materials and his progressive approach to treatment made him a pioneer in the dental field.
From his over 40 years of service at Northwoods Presbyterian Church as an elder, teacher, and worship bass player to his ten medical mission trips to Guatemala with Faith in Practice, Bill glorified Jesus in word and deed.
He loved being Bappo and Papou to his grandchildren, made up songs for each of them, told Tall Tales, introduced them to golf, played card games, and exemplified a life poured out to serve others. His most favorite role was husband to Joanne, whom he had known since third grade. Their beautiful life together and devoted love for each other is an inspiration and a legacy.
A memorial service is scheduled for October 21, 2pm at Northwoods Presbyterian Church in Houston. Donations can be made in Bill’s honor to Northwoods Presbyterian Church (www.northwoods.org), Healing ALS (www.healingals.org), or Faith in Practice (donate.faithinpractice.org/WilliamGlaros).
