Wilbur Johnson was born on October 16, 1947 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He passed from this life on December 28, 2023 in Houston, Texas at the age of 76. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilburn Vernon Johnson and Margie Lee Johnson.
At an early age, Wilbur’s parents moved from Nacogdoches to Houston, Texas. Wilbur attended Sam Houston High School and was a member of the track team. He continued running track in College at Stephen F. Austin State University. He won many medals with his track team.
In September, 1966, he married Peggy Jean Honsinger and they moved back to Houston where he raised his family. Wilbur and Peggy built a wonderful life together for 57 years. Together, they raised 2 sons.
Wilbur was a huge fan of his boys. He spent many years following them to numerous band and other school events. He never really got to watch a full event because he always had a camera up to his eye and had to watch the event through the view finder on a camera. That never deterred him and he was always in the stands to cheer them on for whatever activity they were involved in.
Wilbur loved his church. For many years, Wilbur worked the bus ministry for the church. He was also the bookkeeper for the church, he sang with the praise team, worked with the media team, was the Sunday School Superintendent, assisted his Pastor in many other roles and he loved to worship God. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and all outdoor activities. He loved to sit around the camp fire and tell stories, even if he made them up.
Wilbur is survived by his wife, Peggy Johnson, his 2 sons, Michael Johnson and wife, Mary, and Mark Johnson and wife, Karen. He is also survived by his brother, Vernon Lee Johnson and wife, Michelle, as well as 2 granddaughters, Shelby Morquecho (Kenny), Jamie Orlacchio (E.J. Miller), and 5 great grandchildren, along with a host of friends.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Pentecostal Church of Atascocita, 3448 Atascocita Road, Humble, Texas. Service will follow immediately at 11:00AM. Burial will take place at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale St., Houston, Texas at 3:30 PM on Thursday, January 4. Flowers can be sent to the church.
