Wesley William Wallace was born in Seney, Plymouth County, Iowa on July 23, 1922 to Methodist minister Samuel Johnston Wallace and his wife Margaret Elizabeth Guy. Wes was the youngest sibling of his sister Marian, and three brothers, George, and twins Harold and Howard. Wes was raised in the Christian faith and at age 20 joined the United States Army Air Corp and served under General Douglas MacArthur during both World War II and the Korean War, flying B-29 bombers as a pilot and a pilot-trainer.

Wes was a proud founder and Master Instructor at the Industrial Fire School at Texas A&M University where he served for more than thirty years and was awarded the prestigious W. H. Lauderback Award in recognition of his outstanding service. One of Wes' fondest professional memories was producing a safety training video series for the University of Hawaii.
Wes met, courted, and married Hazel Wanda Cox on February 3, 1956 at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, and the two of them remained married for 59 years and together raised three children: Scott Johnston, Drusilla, and Casey Todd Wallace. Scott died in January 1995, but Wes is survived by his wife, Hazel, his children Drusilla and Casey, along with their spouses Stephen Bennett and Stacey Wallace, and four grandchildren, Adam and Ian Gomez, Cameron Chavez, and Scott Wallace.
