Wayne Joseph Smith, an employee of Fannie Mae Corporation, departed this life on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the age of 51. He was the beloved husband of Veronica Lucero Smith of 9 years. A native of San Mateo, California and Salt Lake City Utah, Wayne attended Palo Alto High School and San Jose State University. While employed at Stanford University Medical School Laboratory, he served as President of the Labor Union. Wayne loved music, history and politics; he loved to debate with anyone at anytime. Wayne’s passion in life was cycling, he loved riding his bike, and he was a member of the Tri Mac Triathlon team. Even though Wayne was not able to compete in an Iron Man, he will cross the finish line with his coach Carolina Carstens on her next Iron man. His Father Jessie B. Smith and his beloved dog Rocky preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife Veronica, his mother JoAnn, his brothers Rodney and Andy two step children Phil Martinez (Melanie) and Jennifer Taufa (Hokani); four grandchildren, one niece Kiara, two nephews Rodney and Wayne Smith; Beloved relatives, Allyson, Amos and Ava Neal, Raquel Jones Victor Rector and Grayling Bocage, and friends John Burch, Frank Palraj and a host of other relatives and friends.
Relatives, friends and employees of Fannie Mae and Selene Finance are invited to attend the memorial services beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas, phone number 281-497-2210. Bobby Jones will be officiating the service. Interment of ashes ceremony: Valley View Memorial Park and Funeral Home, West Valley City, Utah, on December 20, 2014 at 2:00 P.M.
