Wayne Jefferson Mead went to eternal rest on December 24, 2017. He was born on September 5, 1942 in Marianna, Florida to parents Walther Jefferson Mead and Elva Lee Howard. Wayne was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend that will be dearly missed by all of those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Verlie Benefield Mead; children: Penny Schrank and her husband Curt, Stephenie Mead and Marty Hatley and her husband Bubba; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; brothers: Walter Stephen Mead, William Luther Mead and Walter Clyde Mead; sisters: Margie Mason and Opal Dykes and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Wayne is preceded by his parents and brother William Burke.
The family will receive friends for visitation Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the Family Chapel at Brookside Funeral Home followed by a burial in Brookside Memorial Park and Cemetery.
