Warren Wheeler Hood was born in Claude, Texas on October 6, 1934 to Paul and Edna (Wheeler) Hood and passed away on December 2, 2013 in HOuston, Texas. Warren had one sister, Mauvine Chamales and brother in law John Chamales. Warren attended Claude public schools, graduating in 1951.
Warren attended Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas from 1951-1955 and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was a member of a number of organizations and clubs.
In December 1955 Warren married Carolyn J. Willingham who he met at Abilene Christian University.
In 1956, Warren entered the U.S. Navy’s Aviation Officer Candidate Program in Pensacola, Florida. Commissioned Ensign, U. S. Navy on May 18, 1956, he entered basic flight training that same month in Milton, Florida. Afterward, he transferred to Hutchinson, Kansas in March, 1957 for advanced flight and navigation training. He was designated Naval Aviator in July, 1957 and transferred to Jacksonville, Fl. In addition to previously mentioned places, he lived in Corpus Christi, Tx, Lexington Park, Maryland, San Jose, California, Chicago, Il, New Orleans, La, and Springfield, Virginia, finally moving to Houston in 1978. Warren has traveled and flown all around the world.
Highlights of Warren’s Naval career include 2 separate tours on anti-submarine duty from Patuxent River, MD and Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. In addition to hunting Russian submarines from Puerto Rico Warren’s squadron also helped locate Mercury Space Capsules from Cape Canaveral. Warren also served during the Viet-nam war flying night patrols to detect enemy aircraft headed towards the 7th fleet. Warren also served as a training instructor at the Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, TX and at Sunnyvale, CA. From there Warren served on the staff of two Admirals, the first in Chicago and the second in New Orleans. Warren was then transferred to the Office of the Secretary of the Navy in the Pentagon. After four years in the Pentagon, Warren transferred to Houston as the Commanding Officer of a large training unit of over 4,000 sailors. In 1980, Warren retired from the Navy as a Captain after 25 years of service.
In 1980 Warren began a second career in the financial services field with Income Builders Sales Corporation and left as a Vice President in 1984 to join Commonwealth Savings as a Senior Vice President and financial services manager. In 1988 he left Commonwealth to establish C. W. Associates, a training-consulting firm. In addition to operating a business, Warren was an elder of the Memorial Church of Christ, which kept him extremely busy but he loved every minute of it. In 2005 he made the decision to resign due to health issues. Until his death he remained very active at giving bible studies and sharing Christ.
Warren and Carolyn have two children, a daughter, Kimela Dene Armstrong and son, Wesley Warren Hood. Kim and her husband, Dan, live in Alvin, TX and have a son, Chris, and daughter, Casey. Wes and his wife Diana live in Abilene and have a son, Wade, a daughter Taylor and her husband Sim; a daughter Crescenda and a son Austin.
