Wanda is survived by her husband of 32 years, Michael Wolff; sons Scot Davis (Billie), Joe Davis (Barbara), and Adam Davis (Emily); stepson Chris Wolff (Amy); stepdaughter Heather Childers (Neal); grandchildren: Cooper Wolff (Skyla), Paige Childers, Addison Wolff, Parker Childers, Julie Davis, Austin Davis, Katelyn Davis, Dylan Davis, Lauren Davis, Bella Davis, Patrick Davis, Hallie Davis, and Maddie Davis; great-grandchildren Jacob and Layne Wolff; brother J.D. Reed, Jr. (Karen); brother John Reed; nephew Ryan Reed (Kathleen); niece Kristin Reed; nephew William Reed (Jennifer); and her beloved dogs, Mia and Lady Bug. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James Reed.
Wanda spent her early years in southeast Houston before moving with her family to Houston’s Memorial area in 1962. She attended Memorial High School for three years before transferring to Westchester High School for her senior year to be part of the school’s first graduating class in 1968. Following her high school graduation, Wanda attended Greenbrier College in Lewisburg, West Virginia, before returning home to care for her mother. Wanda was an integral part of the family business, Metro Wholesale Distributors, Inc., for nearly 40 years. She raised three sons as a single mother while also fighting breast cancer, ultimately defeating the disease. Wanda was a proud breast cancer survivor and participated with friends and family in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure for many years. Her example of quiet strength and positivity during this time was not lost on her boys. In 1991, Wanda married Mike Wolff, merging two families into one close-knit, loving family.
Wanda loved the Lord and was a member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, first in the early 1960s, and later rejoined the church with her sons in 1984. She also loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Their ‘Nini’ would frequently attend their many events, such as plays, horse shows, rodeo, baseball, soccer, volleyball, and lacrosse, to name a few.
Wanda’s passion was being outdoors, especially at her happy place, the family ranch in northeast Texas. Nothing made her happier than driving the pastures in her old Jeep, hiking in the woods with her grandkids, planting flowers and trees in the yard, or simply filling her numerous bird feeders to attract her favorite bird, the cardinal. Our family will miss those special times with her.
Although she was always physically active, later in life Wanda picked up an interest in fitness and running. She joined SEAL PT Course, a fitness program established by a former Navy SEAL that included running, intense calisthenics, low crawls through mud, and log carries. This sparked her interest in running and she successfully completed the Houston Half Marathon and the Seabrook Lucky Trail Half Marathon. She was an inspiration to many with her enthusiasm and positive attitude.
Wanda was an animal lover and always had a canine companion. When her beloved dog, Reggie, passed away, she adopted two dogs, Mia and Lady Bug. She loved traveling to the ranch with both dogs, often took them on morning walks, and even took Mia to the office every day.
Wanda was kind, compassionate, and happily served others. In addition to raising three boys, Wanda cared for some of her family members her entire adult life. Because of the lifelong example she set, her family rallied around her during her illness, making sure she knew she was surrounded by love. Wanda approached her recent illness with the same quiet strength, tenacity and positivity she displayed her entire life. She was a shining example to her friends and to her loving family, who miss her dearly.
Wanda’s memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas. For those not able to attend the service in person, a live stream of the service will be available at http://www.mdumc.org/wandawolff. A reception will immediately follow at the home of Scot and Billie Davis.
In lieu of customary remembrances, and for those desiring, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Wanda’s name be directed to Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research (https://events.lustgarten.org/fundraiser/5049518) or Houston Pets Alive!
