Wanda Sue Potts, of Houston, passed away at the age of 87 on June 4, 2020. Sue was born March 31, 1933, in Maryville, Tennessee to Lawrence K. and Beryl Weagly. Sue obtained her English degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas and began a teaching career in Houston. She left Houston when she married and resided in Kansas City, but returned to Houston in 1968 and resumed her career, teaching 5th grade English in the Aldine School District. She obtained her Masters Degree in education from the University of Houston. Sue was active for many years in the Order of the Eastern Star, Sunshine Chapter. She traveled with her husband to many countries, including South Africa and Korea. In later years, she was a member of the Tip Top Tappers dance group and traveled to New York City to perform. Sue was an avid reader and bridge player, playing bridge with friends at the Tracy Gee and Bayland community centers three times a week for many years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Phillip Potts, her brothers, Marion and L.K. Weagly, and her sister, Dorothy Olerich.
Sue is survived by her loving children: David L. Potts and his wife Anne Marie of Oakland, California; Daniel E. Potts and his wife Regina Gee of Bozeman, Montana; Barbara Wolf Sumner and her husband Lloyd Sumner of Columbia, Missouri; 4 grandchildren: Katy Potts and Jackson Potts of Austin, Texas; Jennifer Wolf and Keith Sumner of Columbia, Missouri.
Services for Wanda Sue Potts will be privately attended.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Ophelia Frederick and her daughter, Shondra Jones, who faithfully provided loving care in her home in her declining years.
