A native Houstonian, Walter was a 1943 graduate of Lamar High School. After graduation, he joined the Navy and earned his commission as Ensign in 1944, and served on the USS Santa Fe. Walter attended University of Texas after serving his country, majoring in Engineering; however, before graduation, he quit to work in the family business. Later he earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering and a Masters in Business from the University of Houston.
Walter was preceded in death by his mother, Marie, his father, Walter, Sr, and his sister, Shirlie. He is survived by his loving wife, Minnie Frances, her son, Kevin Leigh Purnell and daughters, Lynn Hagan and Jana Miller, as well as seven grandchildren. Walter also leaves behind his loving nieces, Betsy Brooks, her husband and two children, and Linda Brown and her two sons, all of Ft. Worth, Texas.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from one until two o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 31st of May, in The Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The funeral service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 31st of May, in The Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, where Rev. Kerry Nelson of Faith Lutheran Church in Bellaire is to officiate. The interment service is to follow, via an escorted cortege, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
